The Gentlewomen Series: Julia Flynn

The Gentlewomen Series is an ode to women who we look up to and have shown incredible strength during these unprecedented times. They are partners, professionals, breadwinners and mothers. They are also now teachers, psychologists, and homemakers. All achieved with the uttermost kindness, gentleness and grace.

What inspired you to build Cabine Creative?
My passion and mission for building awareness for talent and brands who deserve to be seen by the world.

As a former professional ballet dancer, what do you take from that past life into your current profession?
Discipline, work ethic, drive and an insatiable thirst for the best in all ways.

Who is your role model? Why?
My mother because she balances kindness and generosity with strength and resilience.

How do you choose the brands you work with?
I choose people or brands that I don’t think have the spotlight on them yet but deserve to. I know I can help them and and want to.

How has your relationship changed or evolved with your brands this year?
Tough question but I have definitely seen both extreme positives from some and disappointing outcomes from others.

What is it that got your attention in our work?
Immense talent. I also know how much success you can have if just introduced to the right people.

Julia as The Gentlewoman

What have you learned about yourself during this pandemic?
I have learned that I am a lot stronger than I thought I was. I have also learned what I don’t want for the business and what I do want moving forward.

What is life like for you right now?
My life is extremely busy, but I wake up the most grateful I’ve ever been every single day.

What are your 2020 high and lows?
I lost almost everything in the span of two days at the start of the pandemic. There were a lot of dark days and nights in March and April. But with the support of my team and our vision together, we persevered through. The high was coming out on the other side in July. I feel like the team and I have grown so much together.

What does being a gentle woman mean to you?
It means leading with grace but also knowing how to be strong when needed.

If you were to go on a vacation right now, where would you go? Why?
I love learning. I really want to go to Istanbul, Barcelona, Portugal and Ireland when the world is in a better place. Of course to do nothing and lay on a beach I would love to go to Fiji!

How would you describe your own personal style?
I feel like I’m still finding my own personal style everyday but I go between edgy and super feminine.

Pay it forward: Instagram accounts and people who have inspired you.
Jill Newman, Zerina Akers, VOGUE Arabia, Booth Moore, Vanessa Friedman, Kollin Carter, @cakeatelieramsterdam, @theadventurine, @fashionkind, @emilydougherty.

Living a busy life between Los Angeles and New York, how do you and your husband balance your home life?
This is something we are continuously working on. We barely see each other but the hope is in 2021 to change this! We love our work but work isn’t everything. We’re working to create a better balance in our lives. One step at a time right?
